About Solar Cost Advisor

Built by a homeowner, for homeowners.

We're independent. Solar Cost Advisor is not a solar installer and we don't sell panels. Our only job is to give homeowners an honest, up-to-date estimate of what solar really costs — then, only if you choose, connect you with vetted local installers for real quotes.

Why this site exists

Solar Cost Advisor started with a personal frustration. While pricing solar for her own home, our founder ran into a process that was surprisingly inaccurate and hard to trust — inconsistent numbers from site to site, and confusing, fast-changing policies and incentives that many resources hadn't kept up with.

So we built the resource we wished we'd had: clear pricing, no sales pressure, and data kept current with the 2026 market — including the end of the 30% federal tax credit on December 31, 2025, which a lot of calculators still haven't updated.

What we do — and don't do

  • We do give you a fast, free, state-specific estimate of system size, cost, savings, and payback — with no signup required.
  • We do keep our cost and incentive data current, because outdated numbers lead to bad decisions.
  • We don't sell solar equipment or installations, and we're not owned by an installer. That independence is the whole point.

Who's behind it

Shannon Midthun — Founder, LTR Advisory LLC. Shannon started Solar Cost Advisor after pricing solar for her own home and finding the process frustratingly inaccurate. She set out to build a neutral, jargon-free way for homeowners to understand solar pricing before talking to a salesperson. Solar Cost Advisor is operated by LTR Advisory LLC, a Wisconsin company.
